Research question
The overall research question that will be addressed is:
What impact does NetMath, a component-based network project which includes
digital video, have on the understanding of school based mathematical concepts
in terms of real-world applications?
I am proposing that this main question will be investigated
by addressing these sub-questions:
- What impact does the digital video component have on
the effectiveness of NetMath as a learning tool?
- What impact does NetMath have on the way the high school
upperclassmen, who are the primary developers of the project, view the
learning of school-based math as real-world applications.
- What impact does it have on the way the high school sophomores,
who will evaluate the project, view the learning of school-based math as
real-world applications?
- What impact does it have on the way the high school freshmen,
who will be the end users, view the learning of school-based math as real-world
applications? Is NetMath an effective learning tool?
- What impact do the visual components in this project
(graph, table and digital video) have on increasing a student's need to
be visual literate?
This paper is broken down into four parts. Chapter II
discusses the theoretical foundation of this research. Chapter III outlines
the background research leading up to this project, describes the network
project (NetMath) and its development in a Central Illinois high school,
and details the methodology that will be used. Chapter IV highlights the
contributions and implications that this research may bring to the field
of education.
